Resize images for the web
Images are often several times wider than the space they fill. Set a maximum width, get smaller versions for phones, and copy the srcset HTML for each image.
Questions
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Files you add are processed in your browser and stay on your device. You can check this in your browser's network tab: nothing is sent while they're optimized. The one exception is starting from a PageBench report, where we fetch that report's images from the tested site for you, without storing them.
Will my images look worse?
Not at the default setting. The tool compresses each image, compares the result with the original using SSIM, a standard measure of visual similarity, and keeps the smallest version that still looks the same. You can check any image yourself with the before and after slider.
Which format should I use?
Leave it on Smart. Photos are tried as both WebP and AVIF, and AVIF only wins when it's clearly smaller. Logos, icons and diagrams with few colours are kept lossless so their edges stay sharp. If your file is already well optimized, you get it back unchanged.
Does it remove metadata?
Yes, from every image it re-encodes. That includes camera details and GPS location, which also makes the file smaller. Images are converted to the standard sRGB colour space, the one browsers expect. A file that's returned unchanged because it was already optimized keeps its original data.
Are there any limits?
No account and no daily limit. Each image can be up to 80 MB and 100 megapixels. Animated images and SVGs aren't converted. Very large batches depend on your device's memory, so a phone will handle fewer than a laptop.
How do I put the optimized images on my site?
Download the zip and replace your old files. It includes a prompt for your AI coding agent, listing every original and its replacement, so the agent can swap the files, update references and set width and height. You can also copy an HTML snippet for any image.
